The Glitch app was created as an invite-only platform to produce scarcity and drive exclusivity. The app was shaped for, and in collaboration with, young and influential athletes, "The Creators". By using their exclusive invites as social currency to gain influence in their own spheres, The Creators were responsible for the successful promotion of the product which was not sold or advertised anywhere else.
The Glitch app allows to swipe left and right to browse different Inner shoes and Outer skins. It also allows to swipe up or down to pull them apart just as you would do in real life. It can be tapped to see more information or double tapped to zoom in. The interaction design is gestural and rewards exploration.
Within the app a time slot can also be booked to attend one of the personalised fitting sessions where Adidas experts will help customers pick the correct size boot and colour combination.
The app is the centre of the whole experience and the main channel of communication. It is also the home of new content so that Glitch users keep coming back. It allows users to be the first ones to know about upcoming boot releases, community events and exclusive content from influencers.
In order to create a true mobile commerce experience, once bought via the app, the boots are delivered in 4 hours to where the customer is located.
Once a Starter Pack is purchased, the user is given 10 invites to add their friends to the Glitch community.
If 3 of those friends buy a Starter Pack, the user is rewarded with a free Outer skin. If the user collects 6 Outer skins they will be rewarded with the free Inner shoe of their choice.
